Toaster Launcher Dev Diary - May & June 2024 - Toaster Launcher in the Philippine Game Dev Expo!

Toaster Launcher has reached a new milestone since its first demo release: It has been selected to be part of the Indie Game Stars in the Game Developers Association of the Philippines' (GDAP) 2024 Philippine Game Dev Expo (PGDX)!

For those who have not yet watched the respective video, I have attended last year's expo as a guest and have been enjoying my time there, especially in the Indie Games Stars section. This time, I am now part of it!

As great as it is, this also means that I have to release a new version of the demo, prioritizing the story aspects and made big changes to it and, because of that, the promotional art as well.

To recap, the story was about an eccentric professor who repurposed a toaster bought by his assistant into a pest elimination device, which turned out to double as a great defense against the raining explosives that were raining later.

Now, with the changes made, the assistant has a name: Chester, and he transferred his consciousness to the toaster in order for it to function, which means that the player is now known as "Chester the Toaster" and has a personality!

Back at April, I had announced to prioritize on improving the City level, but now with the new priority, I will work on the first level of Story Mode: The Laboratory, which will be included in the new version.

Also included are a few of the concerns from the previous entry that are now addressed. The demo notice has been enlarged, a restart level button has been added, the loading screen is now slightly longer, and the balloon mines are no longer sticking to the edges!

Lastly, the new power-ups (and hindrances) have been added!

As you may have noticed, the Honey Power-Up is not there. It has been shelved as I think that its effects would make the Chili redundant. So for now, it would not be in the updated demo until I find a new use for it.

The next version of the demo is set to be ready after the 2024 PGDX, either at the very end of July or at the start of August. Additionally, an announcement video will be released on my YouTube channel (Aratonati), explaining my presence in the expo.

Make sure you stay tuned for updates on the game's development! 🍞💣
