Toaster Launcher Dev Diary - October 2024 - New Enemies!

During the past 4 months, I had an internship at the Department of Health, which while is an enjoyable experience, slowed down development of Toaster Launcher. After the internship was completed at the end of September, development is back on schedule, where the priority is planning out the Space level!

8 new explosives have been confirmed! Here are all them currently,

(new explosives' sprites: a pipebomb, a molotov cocktail, a landmine with 2 variations, a smoke grenade, a violet bomb, a red capsule with 2 variations, a missile and a blue capsule with 2 variations)

Some of the new explosives will be featured in the Space level, which explains the unconventional look. Also, the reason why there are 2 variations on three of the sprites (dim or glowing) is that they will be animated, which would serve a purpose in their mechanics.

Here is how the new explosives would behave:

Pipe Bomb - Appears on City onwards. A more durable version of Dynamite. In City, it will bounce once when it hits the ground, then falls back through.

Molotov Cocktail - Appears on City up to Sky. Destroying it will spread out dangerous embers that fall down. Basically the combination of the Grenade and TNT.

Landmine - Exclusive on City. Upon touching the ground, it will stay there for a while until finally exploding, acting as a temporary but dangerous obstacle against Chester.

Smoke Grenade - Appears on Sky onwards. Destroying it will create a harmless cloud of smoke that obfuscates its area for a time.

Space Bomb - Exclusive on Space. Basically a normal bomb that now takes            THREE hits to destroy!

Shockwave Capsule - Exclusive on Space. Will detonate, releasing a dangerous     shockwave, if not destroyed in time.

Homing Missile - Exclusive on Space. Floats momentarily before it starts following Chester. It will continue following him until its duration expires or is destroyed.

Power Capsule - Exclusive on Space. The Space equivalent of the Firework. Will open and release a Power-Up (or a Hindrance) after a duration. Destroying it before it opens will destroy the Power-Up inside.

There is also a plan for one more special explosive, but that will have to wait.

Finally, the background for the Space level is now here! Of course, it would scroll.

Make sure you stay tuned for updates! 🍞💣
